Important for henna and tattoos

  • Henna: only pure natural henna (reddish brown). “Black henna” may contain PPD and can cause serious harm.
  • Tattoo: have the spelling confirmed by an Arabic speaker before it is done. We check the script, not the meaning.
  • Religious phrases are sacred to many people; if in doubt, ask in your community or family.

Frequently asked questions

Is “black henna” safe?

No. Real henna is reddish to dark brown. A deep black pattern that is ready within minutes usually contains the dye PPD, which can cause severe allergic reactions and lasting scars. Only accept pure natural henna, ideally with an ingredient list.

Why a mirror image?

Many studios transfer the stencil with transfer paper, which flips the design. With “mirror image” the stencil is prepared so that it appears the right way round on the skin. Ask your studio which version it needs.

How small can lettering be?

Arabic script has fine joins and dots; the smaller it is, the sooner they run together. A rule of thumb for skin is a lettering height of roughly 8 to 10 mm or more; settle the exact limit with your studio.
