About & methodology
arabic-letters.com is a free checking and learning tool for Arabic script – made for anyone who wants to wear a name or phrase as a tattoo, engraving or piece of jewellery and wants to be sure it is spelled correctly.
Why this site exists
Arabic is written right to left, and most letters change shape depending on where they sit in a word. A single wrong connection, a missing dot or a mirrored design turns a name into something else or into an unreadable mark – and on skin it cannot be corrected. This site is meant to make such mistakes visible before anything becomes permanent.
Who is behind it
The site is run by an individual; the details are in the imprint. We are neither a translation agency nor a tattoo studio nor a religious authority.
How the check works
- The check works by fixed rules, not guesswork: it reads the script character by character and verifies joins, order and dots.
- Names come from a curated lexicon with currently 209 verified Arabic spellings. If a name is not in it, we only show a phonetic approximation and say so clearly.
- What is checked is the script, not the sense: the site does not judge the meaning or grammar of a sentence.
How the size check measures
For each name and six script styles the name is rendered at high resolution and analysed: how close can letters sit without touching, and how thin are the finest strokes? That gives the minimum size. The starting values (finest line 0.6 mm, gap 1.0 mm) are our own assumptions, not verified standards; you can change them yourself. The final decision always rests with the person doing the work.
Sources and licences
Fonts, word lists and their licences are listed in the imprint under “Quellen”. All fonts are served from this server.
How the site is funded
Some content pages may show advertising, and product links to Amazon are affiliate links. Both are labelled. Advertising and affiliate links influence neither the check nor the measurements nor the order of style recommendations. Tools, legal pages and the data sheet are ad-free.
Limits
- A tattoo is permanent. If you are unsure, try it temporarily first (photo editor, stencil, natural henna).
- Sizes and minimum dimensions are guide values without guarantee; skin, needle and method differ.
- We do not offer individual reviews or advice. If you spot a wrong spelling of a name, we appreciate a note by email to info@arabic-letters.com.
Updates
The site is continuously extended and improved. What changed and when is listed in the changelog (v54, 2026-10-06).
