v35
  • Fixed two wrong transliterations on the homepage: "Leon" showed لن (the word "will not") instead of ليون, "Noah" showed نواه instead of نوح — the external transliteration engine got exactly these two names wrong, even though the correct spelling already existed in the site's own name dictionary.
  • Cause: the "Popular searches" tiles on the homepage query the external engine live instead of using the site's own verified dictionary — the same gap already seen with "Salah". Fixed via the same correction mechanism that overrides the engine's answer for known problem cases before display.
  • Verified: both names tested live against the homepage, 195-page regression suite still passes cleanly.
v34
  • Real dark mode for the whole site — follows the device's system setting automatically (no toggle, no saved setting, no extra JavaScript). Covers every card, input field and menu.
  • Dark-mode text contrast checked individually by calculation (WCAG contrast formula), not just by eye — buttons, letter-confusion chips and badges stay clearly legible in both color schemes.
  • The print view (certificate, art preview) deliberately always stays on white paper, regardless of the screen's color scheme.
  • Verified: 195-page regression suite still passes cleanly, dark and light mode visually compared (screenshots) on the homepage, letters overview and a letter detail page, light mode pixel-identical to the version before this change.
v33
  • "Easy to confuse" on all 31 letter pages is now letter-specific instead of the same ب/ت/ث statement everywhere: real, linguistically accurate confusion groups (dot families like ب/ت/ث/ن/ي, stroke-shape pairs like ا/ل/ك, word-end look-alikes like ة/ه and ى/ي) with direct links to each matching letter — more depth, more internal linking, no two pages with identical body text anymore.
  • FAQ with rich-results markup added to the Decompose, Photo-Preview, Henna and Human-Review pages — previously the only 4 of 15 main pages without FAQPage schema. For Henna the content already existed in full in all 13 languages, just not wired into the shared accordion/schema format — no new translation needed, just properly connected.
  • Verified: full 195-page regression suite still passes cleanly, FAQPage schema checked on all 4 pages in German, English and Arabic, each of the 31 letter confusion groups checked individually against standard Arabic script rules.
v32
  • WebSite and Organization structured data added to every page — the prerequisite for Google's sitelinks search box right under the search result, and for the brand logo in the Knowledge Panel.
  • The search action reuses the already-existing name search (?q= on /names, which server-side redirects straight to the matching name page) — no new feature, just made visible to Google for the first time.
  • Verified: both new blocks checked against Google's required fields, full 195-page regression suite still passes cleanly.
v31
  • Pretty addresses (arabic-letters.com/fr/names instead of .../index.php?p=fr/names) are now live — the cause was simply a missing .htaccess file on the server (many FTP clients hide dot-files by default and then never upload them). Confirmed after re-upload: brand-new addresses like /ar/henna load correctly right away.
  • Old, already-indexed technical addresses now permanently redirect (301) to the new pretty address, so no ranking value is lost.
  • robots.txt points back to /sitemap.xml (now reachable) instead of yesterday's temporary /sitemap.php workaround.
  • Tested with a purpose-built local reconstruction of the server's rewrite behavior (previously impossible, since the local test environment ignores .htaccess entirely): all 195 pages across all 13 languages, 40 random addresses out of the new sitemap's 3,237, the legacy redirect, and the text-check feature (which must deliberately NOT redirect when functional parameters are present) — all green.
v30
  • Found and fixed a critical SEO bug (see README for the full derivation from the Google Search Console data): every single canonical tag and all 3,237 sitemap URLs pointed to "pretty" addresses (e.g. /fr/names) that don't actually load on the live server — only the technical address (index.php?p=fr/names) really works there. That told Google, on every single page, "the real version is one that doesn't exist." Canonical tags and the sitemap now point exclusively to the address proven to load.
  • robots.txt now points to /sitemap.php instead of /sitemap.xml, since the latter was unreachable for the same reason (the rewrite rule is inactive on the live server).
  • A single switch (AL_PRETTY_LIVE in inc/i18n.php) now controls pretty URLs for the entire site at once — once the host fixes the server-side rewrite issue, flipping that one switch is all that's needed.
v29
  • The social-media preview image is now available in all 13 languages instead of just German/English — sharing a link in Turkish, Russian, Arabic and so on now shows a properly worded image in that language instead of the English fallback.
  • Added new FAQ sections (with matching search-engine data) on the "Typing" and "Common mistakes" pages — three real visitor questions each.
  • Fixed a bug (found in passing while building the FAQ sections, present since the FAQ feature was first introduced): the "Frequently asked questions" heading was untranslated in 8 of 13 languages and silently showed English on Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Malay and Arabic pages.
  • Ran an image audit: every embedded font is actually used (no dead downloads), the large text-recognition bundle is confirmed to still load only on the photo page and only on demand — only the new preview images were losslessly recompressed (a small saving, but a free one).
v28
  • Completely redesigned the header navigation: 9 cramped side-by-side links became "Check text | Tools ▾ | Shop" — the 8 tools now live in a dropdown with their own icon (a single Arabic letter) and a short description per tile, plus a highlighted callout for "Common mistakes".
  • The language switcher now has a fixed spot in the header and no longer wraps onto an orphaned row at narrower widths.
  • Phones now get a dedicated menu icon (turns into an X when opened) with a clean slide-down panel, replacing the old, too-tightly-packed link list.
  • Fixed a bug (caught before release, never live): in Arabic (right-to-left), the new tools menu rendered shifted and partly off-screen — its centering was tied to a fixed direction instead of the text direction.
v27
  • Introduced a visible version number and this changelog.
  • Added a favicon, app icon and social-media preview image (Open Graph image) — previously any shared link showed a blank preview.
  • Added structured data (breadcrumbs) for Typing, Breakdown, Preview editor, Henna know-how, Human review, Common mistakes, Imprint and Privacy.
  • Fixed a bug where the "Common mistakes" page title showed the domain name twice.
v26
  • Added a new "Common mistakes" page with five real, live-checked comparison examples.
  • Added four previously missing pages to sitemap.php.
v25
  • Added a welcome tour for first-time visitors on the homepage and in the tattoo editor.
v24
  • Fixed a bug where the Couple page result could differ from the live preview.
v23
  • Live preview with suggestions now on every input field on every page.
  • Digit cheat-sheet added to every page with text input.
  • Made the homepage hero more compact; added transparent stencil export to the tattoo editor.
v22
  • Completely removed server-side photo upload: text recognition now runs entirely in the browser (WebAssembly/Tesseract.js) — no visitor image ever reaches the server.
  • New tattoo preview editor: place your own lettering onto a photo of skin, a wall or an object, with free choice of style, size, rotation and color.
